Itinerary

Day 1: Lunch and dinner

Experience all that a standard Sani Pass tour offers, plus the trip to Makhapung, a small Basotho village deep in the highlands of Lesotho. Depart from Underberg and drive up the Sani Pass and into Kingdom of Lesotho. Refreshments at the “Highest Pub in Africa”.  From Sani Top we cross the Sani Plateau before climbing the Black Mountain Pass (3240m). From here you can see Thabana Ntlenyana the highest point in Southern Africa. We then head down the Sehonghong Valley past Highland Basotho villages and on to Makhapung village.

At Makhapung village you will visit the resident traditional healer, observe a unique song & dance routine and a secret ceremonial dance and interact and with the villagers. Thereafter a substantial picnic lunch is enjoyed. A true, once in a lifetime, cultural experience.

Our overnight stay is Molumong situated in a most beautiful location. It is a comfortable, but basic colonial homestead, which is built from natural stone and is surrounded by majestic views.

Spend the rest of the late afternoon exploring the area or just relax and absorb the peace and tranquillity in this vast, isolated mountain kingdom.

Day 2: Breakfast and lunch

After breakfast, we take a trip to Mokhotlong ”Place of the Bald Ibis”.  Its role as a police post first brought people to this part of Lesotho in 1905. It developed into a trading centre for the people of the Highlands region.

We then double back on the route from the day before and have lunch at the Highest Pub in Southern Africa We then descend down the Sani Pass and back to Underberg.
